Cassidy Westjohn critiques America’s food culture by exposing the often-ignored side of it, which is how our capitalistic marketing directly impacts everyone. These two paintings depict the artist at her most vulnerable by showing the fraught relationship she has with food. By depicting her emotional and hidden encounters with food, she allows others to confront their own experiences with eating disorders, closet eating, binge sessions, etc.
